Metallics imports to Turkey dropped in the first six months of this year as crude steel production decreased by 4.1pc to 16.29mn mt.

 

Pig iron imports to Turkey declined by 9.2pc to 614,000mt in H1 2020 compared with the same period in 2019, according to Turkish statistical source SteelData. Imports from the CIS region, traditionally the main supplier to Turkey, made up 75.6pc of Turkey’s total pig iron imports. 

 

Russia decreased its pig iron shipments by 34.7pc to 331,000mt during the period under review, while Ukraine increased its supply of the material by 59.9pc to 134,000mt to Turkey.

 

Turkey’s pig iron imports from Germany, Brazil, and South Africa totaled 71,000mt, 58,000mt, and 11,000mt, respectively, in the first six months of 2020.

 

HBI imports to Turkey dropped by 8.2pc to 235,000mt in January-June 2020 compared with H1 2019, according to SteelData. The USA, a key supplier, increased shipments by 20.1pc to 92,000mt. HBI imports from Russia declined by 39.9pc to 70,000mt and rose to 70,000mt from Libya, which was twice of what was shipped from the North African country last year.
