Ferrous scrap consumption in Turkey increased by 7.1pc to 26.21mn mt in January-November 2020 on an annual basis amid higher crude steel output, according to statistical source SteelData.
Turkish crude steel production totaled 32.36mn mt during the period under review, up 4.9pc from the same 11-month timeframe in 2019. The positive development was supported by a strong domestic steel market.
Turkey increased its ferrous scrap imports by 19.5pc to 20.10mn mt in January-November 2020, while its purchases from the domestic market decreased by 20.3pc to 6.11mn mt, according to SteelData’s statistics. Turkish mills imported 19.8pc of scrap from the USA, 13.7pc from the Netherlands, and 10.7pc from Russia.
In November 2020, crude steel output in the country rose by 12pc to 3.22mn mt on an annual basis. As a result, scrap import increased by 25.4pc to 2.04mn mt.
