Ferrous scrap consumption in Turkey increased by 5.4pc to 23.39mn mt in the first 10 months of the year from January-October 2019 owing to higher crude steel output, according to SteelData.
Turkey’s crude steel production reached 29.14mn mt since the beginning of this year, up 4.2pc from the same prior-year period amid a strong domestic market and a robust construction sector.
Turkish ferrous scrap imports rose by 18.9pc to 18.06mn mt during the period under review, while its purchases from the domestic market dropped by 23.9pc to 5.33mn mt, SteelData indicated. Turkish mills imported 20.7pc of scrap from the USA, 13.5pc from the Netherlands, 10.7pc from Russia, 10.2pc from the UK, and 7.3pc from Belgium.
Scrap imports to Turkey totaled to 1.93mn mt in October compared with 1.15mn mt in October 2019.
