Turkey’s crude steel production is expected to reach 38mn mt while its consumption is estimated at 35mn mt in 2021, according to the Turkish Steel Producer’s Association (TCUD). 

 

The country’s crude steel output grew by 6.1pc to 35.8mn mt in 2020 compared to 33.7mn mt in 2019. Its finished steel production increased by 9pc last year to 36.8mn mt from 33.7mn mt in the prior year while its finished steel consumption saw a 12.9pc rise to 29.4mn mt in 2020 from 26.1mn mt in 2019. 

 

Turkey’s steel consumption in the construction industry dropped by 3.5pc last year from 2019 while its steel used in the manufacturing sector saw a 2.1pc rise in 2020 from the prior year, TCUD reported. 

 

Steel exports from Turkey dropped by 8pc to 16.6mn mt in 2020 from 17.6mn mt in 2019 while its imports inched up by 4pc to 12.5mn mt in 2020 compared to 12mn mt in 2019, TCUD stated.
