Turkish steel producer Tosyali Demir Celik has ordered a Quantum electric arc furnace (EAF) and a two-strand slab caster from Primetals Technologies for its new steel plant in Iskenderun.
The new EAF will be capable of producing 2mn mt of liquid steel per year and can be fed varying grades of scrap and hot briquetted iron, Primetals said in a media statement on Thursday. It will feed the slab caster with the same capacity, with an option to increase production to 3.6mn mt per year. The company has also ordered a vacuum degassing plant to improve its steel grades.
The twin-strand caster will produce slabs 225mm thick and up to 1,800mm wide at a rate of 1.6meters per minute. Both the EAF and caster will work at Level-2 automation.
The Tosyali Group also operates a steel plant in Osmaniye, Turkey, and a DRI direct hot-charge melting plant in Algeria, apart from a number of rolling mills and the new greenfield Iskenderun plant and has a combined steel capacity of 6mn mt.
