Turkey’s automotive production in January–July 2020 declined by 26.7pc to 636,757 units from 868,940 units during the same seven months in 2019, according to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD).
In July, auto production fell by 11.8pc to 118,030 units from 133,882 units in July 2019, OSD reported. The country’s total passenger car production declined by 24pc to 440,103 units in the first seven months of the year from 578,935 units during the same period in 2019. It decreased by 9.9pc to 77,706 units in July 2020 from 86,235 units in July 2019.
In January-July 2020, automotive imports rose by 65.3pc to 195,262 units from 118,139 units last year and surged by 389.2pc to 48,641 units imported in July from 9,944 units in July 2019.
Passenger car imports also witnessed a 71.5pc rise to 165,771 units in the first seven months of 2020 from 96,644 units during the same time last year and increased by 390.8pc rise to 41,517 units in July from 8,459 units in July 2019.
Motor vehicle exports on the other hand fell by 36.1pc to 480,425 units in January- July from 752,062 units during the same seven months in 2019 and fell by 33.3pc in July to 78,242 units from 117,289 units in the same month last year.
Passenger car exports declined by 32.2pc to 333,725 units in January-July 2020 from 492,644 units in January-July 2019 and dropped by 29.2pc to 52,088 cars in July from 73,598 cars in July 2019.
That said, the total Turkish motor vehicle market increased by 60.2pc to 351,319 units in January–July 2020 from 219,299 units during the same period last year. In July, the total auto market rose by 384.8pc to 89,407 units from 18,442 units in July 2019.
The overall passenger car market also jumped by 58.9pc to 273,022 units in the first seven months of 2020 from 171,776 units in January-July 2019. It also moved up in July by 350.9pc to 69,427 units from 15,398 units in July 2019.
