Davis Index’s monthly UK 1&2, 3B, and OA ferrous scrap consumer indices decreased £15/mt ($21/mt) to £298/mt, £315/mt, and £320/mt, delivered to mill, respectively.
Monthly mill-yard ferrous scrap settlements for obsolete grades declined by £15/mt in August following slower domestic and export demand. Unsurprisingly, monthly negotiations have tracked developments in weekly dockside pricing mechanisms over the past month.
For example, HMS 1&2 (80:20) dockside purchase prices fell by £15/mt to £265/mt on Aug 10 from £280/mt on Jul 13, delivered to dock.
In contrast, premiums for new production scrap grades widened given that they were highly sought after by smelters looking to optimize their productivity.
Davis Index’s monthly 4A/4B, 8A/8B, 12A/C, and 12D ferrous scrap consumer indices climbed by £10/mt to £375-385/mt, £375-385/mt, £345/mt, and £365/mt respectively, on the same basis.
