UK ferrous scrap exports for the first six months of 2021 were 4.3mn mt, a 37pc increase over 3.1mn mt during the same period last year. June 2021 figures represent 62.9pc of 2020 UK ferrous scrap exports according to the country’s Customs data.
The monthly total for June 2021 was 784,349mt, up 41.4pc from 459,779mt last year and 4pc from 753,966mt in the previous month.
Turkey remained by far the UK´s main ferrous scrap export market, with June shipments settling at 236,237mt, accounting for 30pc of total exports. This signifies a 126pc increase from 104,539mt during the same month last year and a 2pc growth from 231,975 mt in May.
Egypt followed in second place with 85,308mt for June 2021, down 27pc from 2020 and 35pc on a monthly basis. The third export destination was Bangladesh with 83,595mt; up 4.2 times since June 2020, but down 131pc from May 2021.
