Ukraine’s new passenger car sales in December 2020 stood at 9,801 units, up by 7pc from the same month in 2019, registering a record growth in sales for the year, according to the Ukrainian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Ukrautoprom).
The country’s cumulative car sales for the whole year (Jan-Dec, 2020) declined by 3pc to 85,500 units as compared to 88,500 units in the preceding year due to low demand from consumers.
In 2020, car sales declined in March (-15pc), April (-47pc), May (-15pc), August (-16pc), October (-6pc), and November (-17pc).
The country witnessed a drop in the purchasing power of consumers in 2020 and the implementation of the imported car policy changed the structure of demand in the Ukrainian auto market.
Besides that, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains across the world and severely affected the auto industry globally with restrictions and curbs making it difficult to acquire auto parts for production.
