Ukraine’s pig iron exports have increased by 28pc since the beginning of this year amid better market conditions.
The country exported 2.574mn mt of pig iron in January-October 2020, according to Ukrainian customs data. Of the total shipments, 57pc was exported to the US, 22pc to China, and 7pc to Turkey. In October, Ukraine exported 288,000mt of pig iron, up by 63pc up from the same month last year.
Pig iron production in Ukraine declined by 1pc to 16.88mn mt in the first 10 months of 2020, according to Ukrmetalurgprom data, but the country remained the ninth-largest producer of the material in the world, according to worldsteel.
The top-five pig iron producers in the world during the period under review were China (741.699mn mt), India (81.519mn mt), Japan (50.824mn mt), Russia (43.099mn mt), and South Korea (37.461mn mt).
