Ukraine’s pig iron exports increased in the first 11 months of 2020 amid solid demand for it from foreign outlets. 

 

The country exported 2.827mn mt of pig iron in January-November, rising by 20pc compared to the same period in 2019, according to Ukrainian customs. More than half of the material (59pc) was shipped to the USA, 22pc to China, and 6pc to Turkey.

 

In November, Ukraine’s pig iron exports declined by 27pc to 253,000mt compared with the same prior-year month.

 

Pig iron production in Ukraine inched up by 1pc to 18.594mn mt during the period under review, according to Ukrmetalurgprom data, and the country was the ninth-largest pig iron producer in the world, according to worldsteel. The top-five producers through the first 11 months of 2020 were China (812.900mn mt), India (90.971mn mt), Japan (55.959mn mt), Russia (47.299mn mt), and South Korea (41.324mn mt).
