Non-ferrous exports from the United Kingdom jumped 24pc for aluminum scrap and 11.16pc for copper scrap in the first half of the year, according to the country’s Customs data. 

 

Aluminum scrap exports stood at 258,865mt in H1 compared to 209,525mt in the same period of 2020, while copper scrap shipments from the UK increased to 122,168mt from 109,900mt.

 

Aluminum scrap 

In June, the country exported 42,841mt of aluminum scrap, a 45pc surge from 29,620mt in the same month of 2020. India was the largest importer of aluminum scrap from the United Kingdom, doubling its shipments to 11,400mt in June from 5,714mt in June 2020.  

 

Copper scrap

The United Kingdom exported 20,238mt of copper scrap in June, up by 37pc from 14,817mt in the same month of the year prior. China was the leading importer, recording a 62pc increase to 5,559mt in June from 3,441mt in the previous year.
