The weekly Davis Index premiums for P1020 and 6063 billet climbed on Monday as demand outpaced supply.
The Davis Index P1020 premium inched up by 0.9¢/lb to 19.8¢/lb above the official LME Aluminium cash settlement. The premium for this grade may move higher in the near term on scarce metal supply and subdued imports due to port congestion.
The 6063 billet premium jumped by 3.7¢/lb to 22¢/lb above the P1020 premium amid limited supply. Traders reported the premium for 6063 could move higher if this trend continues, given the grade’s high demand in the construction industry.
The official LME Aluminium cash price settled Monday at $2,254/mt ($1.02/lb), up by $69.50/mt from Mar 15.
