Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Weekly US aluminum scrap export prices moved down on Thursday in a quiet market.


Exports are muted amid a container shortage and weaker demand from Asia. Pricing has remained subdued after a dip was reported earlier this week. Domestic aluminum scrap pricing also declined over the past week, as supply improved.


The official LME cash price settled Thursday at $2,159/mt (97.9¢/lb), down by $10/mt from Mar 4.


The weekly Davis Index for zorba 95/2 fell by 2.5¢/lb to 72.5¢/lb fas US port while zorba 99/3 prices settled at 73.5¢/lb fas, down by 1.2¢/lb. Higher bids for these grades were heard from Hong Kong and Malaysia but no deals were reported at those prices.


Taint/tabor rose by 1.5¢/lb to 69.5¢/lb fas US port. Tense fell by 2.9¢/lb to 65.8¢/lb fas while 6063 extrusion declined by 1.3¢/lb to 83.4¢/lb fas. The index for A356 wheels inched down by 0.8¢/lb to 83.2¢/lb.
