Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

The US Department of Commerce has initiated an antidumping (AD) investigation on aluminum foil exports from Brazil, Oman, Armenia, Turkey, and Russia.

Commerce said in a notice on Friday that it was basing its AD probe on a petition filed by The Aluminum Association, Gränges Americas, Novelis, and JW Aluminum Corporation on Sep 29 that alleged the five countries had sold aluminum foil to the US at less than fair value and, in turn, injured the domestic industry selling the same material.

Based on this petition, Commerce indicated it has begun an investigation of aluminum foil imported into the US from four of the five countries between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020. The agency added that since Armenia, the fifth country named in the petition, is a “non-market economy (NME) country,” Commerce would adjust its period of review for Armenian material from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2020.

The agency has asked all interested parties to file their comments and AD questionnaires on the product description by Nov 9.
