Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Turkish mills reduced scrap imports from the US by 1.7pc to 3.3mn mt between January and November 2019 as lower crude steel output and difficulties with selling steel products impacted Turkish steel markets. The effect was also felt on imports from EU and CIS which decreased by 8pc to 10.6mn mt, and 28.2pc to 1.8mn mt respectively.

However, despite the fall in imports from the continent, European exporters remain Turkey’s main suppliers with their share totaling 63pc of total imports received by the country.

Turkey imported 16.8mn mt of scrap between January and November 2019, down 11.6pc compared to the same period in 2018, according to Turkish Steel Producers Association. The fall has been attributed to lower crude steel output, which decreased 10.4pc to 30.9mn mt.
