US stainless steel and alloy steel scrap exports together dropped by 65pc to 71,880mt in July from 206,471mt a year earlier, according to the US Census Bureau trade data report. 

 

Imports of the two types of scrap fell by just 1pc to 56,067mt in July from 56,556mt during the same month last year.

 

India received the highest share of US stainless steel scrap exports in July at 10,192mt, declining by 17pc from 12,223mt a year earlier. Taiwan received the second-highest share at 5,962mt, which decreased by nearly 21pc from 7,528mt in July 2019.

 

US stainless steel exports to Canada, however, rose by 35pc in July to 3,089mt from 2,021mt a year prior. Exports to South Korea surged by 59pc to 948mt from 388mt during the same period.

 

The largest share of stainless steel imports into the US in July came from Canada at 7,476mt, a 9pc increase from 6,800mt in July of last year. Imports into the US from Mexico climbed by 3pc to 6,846mt from 6,644mt during the period.
