Stainless steel scrap and alloy steel exports from the US declined by 70pc to 73,363mt in August from 246,099mt a year earlier, according to US Census Bureau trade data.
Stainless steel scrap and alloy steel imports also decreased by 8pc to 66,957mt from 72,581mt during the same period.
The US exported the most stainless steel scrap to India in August, but the 11,458mt sent were 18pc below the 13,881mt sent during the same month a year earlier. Taiwan received the second-largest stainless steel exports from the US at 9,098mt, which grew by nearly 4pc from 8,724 in August 2019. US stainless steel exports to Canada rose by 52pc to 4,163mt from 1,987mt.
The US received the most stainless steel from Canada in August, importing 10,003mt, a 1pc decline from 10,124mt the year prior. Imports from Mexico declined by 9pc to 7,973mt in August from 8,776mt.
