US scrap export of stainless steel and alloy steel together declined by 14pc in March to 93,975mt from 109,405mt in the same month last year, according to the US Census Bureau trade data report.

 

Alternatively, total US scrap import of stainless steel and alloy steel in March this year rose by 39pc to 99,010mt compared to 71,098mt on an annual basis.

 

The highest stainless steel and alloy steel scrap export from the US in March was to Mexico at 40,193mt, up from 32,462mt in the same month in 2020. This was followed by exports to Canada which increased to 19,976mt compared to 12,423mt during the same period under review. 

 

US’ stainless steel and alloy steel export to India in the third month of the year fell to 12,771mt, from 13,795mt in March 2020. Its exports to Malaysia dropped to 8,241mt from 36,240mt. The country’s export of stainless steel and alloy steel to Taiwan and Pakistan dropped significantly in March to 3,753mt and 3,236mt, respectively, compared to 6,671mt and 3,313mt in the corresponding month last year.

 

US’ highest scrap import of stainless steel and alloy steel together in March was from Canada at 67,811mt compared to 48,918mt in March last year. Imports from Mexico also increased in March this year to 28,516mt from 20,582mt in March last year.
