United States Steel (US Steel) plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20pc globally, by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The steelmaker plans to leverage its existing electric-arc furnaces (EAFs) and other technologies like using direct reduced iron (DRI) processes and carbon-free sources of energy for sustainable production, according to a statement on Wednesday.
US Steel launched its low-carbon steel product verdeX at the Ceres 2021 conference in March and the company will continue to add more sustainable products to its portfolio in a bid to reduce its global carbon footprint.
The Pittsburgh headquartered steelmaker has the capacity to produce around 26mn nt of crude steel per year.
