Steel shipments from the US fell by 14.7pc to 6.75mn nt (6.12mn mt) in October, from 7.9mn nt in the same month last year, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported.
US shipments from January-October were down by 16.5pc to 67.2mn nt, compared to 80.5mn nt of steel shipped during the first 10 months of 2019. However, for the month of October, steel shipments from the US increased by 1.3pc from 6.67mn nt shipped one month prior.
Notably, cold-rolled sheet, hot-dipped galvanized sheet, and strip shipments rose 3pc in October from the prior month and hot-rolled sheet increased by 2pc in the same period.
