Steel shipments from US mills fell by 8.3pc to 22.11mn nt during Q1 2021 compared to 24.11mn nt shipped in the same period last year, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) data.
However, shipments increased by 1.9pc to 7.95mn nt (7.21mn mt) in March compared to 7.8mn nt shipped in the same month last year.
US steel shipments also rose on a monthly basis, by 18pc from 6.74mn nt shipped in February, AISI noted. Compared to February, hot-rolled sheet shipments rose by 18pc, cold-rolled sheet moved up 17pc, while hot-dipped galvanized sheet and strip increased by 16pc in March, AISI indicated.
