Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Steel shipments from US mills decreased by 25.6pc in July to 6.04 mn nt (5.48mn mt), from 8.12mn nt shipped during the same month last year, according to the American Iron and steel Institute (AISI) data. 

 

Steel shipments increased by 0.2pc in July 2020 as compared to 6.02mn nt shipped in the prior month, June 2020.

 

Year-to-date steel shipments for the Jan-Jul period of this year tally at 47.23mn nt, depicting a 16.1pc decline compared to the first seven months of 2019’s shipments at 56.34mn nt.

 

Compared with June, steel shipments of hot-dipped galvanized sheet and strip steel increased by 4pc in July over June while cold-rolled steel shipments increased by 2pc in the same comparative period, according to AISI. However, hot-rolled sheet steel dropped 1pc in July compared to the prior month.
