Vedanta Limited’s zinc production in India in Q3 FY21 (Oct-Dec, 2020) stood at 182,000mt, up by 2pc from Q3 FY20 and by 1pc as compared to the previous quarter (Q2 FY21), the company said in a statement.
The company’s lead output in Q3 rose by 28pc to 52,000mt from the prior-year period but fell by 7pc as compared to Q2.
In the first nine months of FY21 (April 1-Dec 31, 2020), Vedanta’s zinc production stood at 520,000mt, up by 1pc from the same period year before, while lead production grew by 16pc to 153,000mt due to higher metal grade at SK mines and higher lead output from mines.
Iron ore output
The company’s iron ore output in Q3 rose by 21pc to 1.4mn mt from the same period in the preceding fiscal but fell by 1pc as compared to Q2.
In the April-Dec period, iron ore production stood at 3.9mn mt, up by 7pc as compared to nine months in the prior fiscal.
There was no production at the company’s Goa mine because of the Supreme Court judgment directing mining operations of all companies in Goa to cease with effect from March 16, 2018.
The company’s Pig iron output stood at 145,000mt in Q3, down by 19pc as compared to the prior-year period and by 22pc from the preceding quarter due to shutdown at one of the furnaces in last week of November for enhancement of production capacity.
In the April-Dec period, the company’s Pig iron production declined by 17pc to 440,000mt as compared to the same period in FY20.
Steel production
The company’s steel production in Q3 increased by 7pc to 340,000mt from the prior-year period, supported by the stability of the blast furnace and higher pellet usage adding to the volumes.
In comparison to Q2, the company’s steel output grew by 31pc.
In the first nine months of FY21, the company’s steel production stood at 868,000mt, down by 5pc from the same period in the previous year due to lower furnace availability in Q1 owing to supply crunch amidst the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19.
Copper cathode production
Vedanta Limited’s copper cathode production in Q3 increased by 22pc to 25,000mt from the prior-year period and by 1pc from the previous quarter. In the first nine months of the current fiscal, the company’s copper cathode output stood at 66,000mt, up by 27pc as compared to the same period in FY20.
Zinc and lead output (International)
Vedanta’s total international zinc output in Q3 stood at 59,000mt, down by 2pc from the prior-year period due to maintenance work at Skorpion since April 2020, however, it grew by 16pc as compared to Q2 due to a significant ramp-up of Gamsberg mine through improved throughput and recoveries.
In the April-Dec, 2020 period, Vedanta Zinc Internationa’s total output rose by 20pc to 147,000mt as compared to the same period the year before.
