Vietnamese new vehicle sales in August declined by 16pc to 19,601 units from 23,368 units in July and by 4pc as compared to 20,363 units in the same month year prior, according to preliminary data released by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (Vama).

 

Passenger vehicle (PV) sales in August by the Vama members decreased by 16pc to 14,629 units from 17,422 units in July and by 1pc from 14,817 units last year, while commercial vehicle (CV) registrations dropped by 16pc to 4,833 units from 5,773 units last month and by 10pc from 5,346 units in August 2019.

 

Truck sales stood at 4,635 units in August, down by 17pc from 5,585 units in July, but rose by 1pc from 4,605 units in the same month year prior.

 

Bus sales in August rose by 5pc to 198 units from 188 units July, however, witnessed a significant drop by 73pc from 741 units in the same month year prior.

 

Special-purpose vehicle registrations in August contracted by 20pc to 139 units from 173 units in July and by 31pc from 200 units in the same month last year.

 

In January-August, the total auto sales in Vietnam stood at 145,689 units, down by 24pc from 192,180 units in the same period year prior. PC and CV sales declined by 25pc and 20pc, respectively, while truck sales decreased by 12pc.

 

During the same period, bus sales plummeted significantly by 75pc to 1,516 units as compared to 5,986 units in January-August 2019.

 

Special-purpose vehicle sales in the first eight months this year dropped by 33pc to 1,568 units, while bus chassis registrations declined by 30pc to 176 units during the same period last year.
