Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has initiated an anti-dumping (AD) investigation against imports of pre-painted steel from China and South Korea and cold-rolled stainless steel (SS) imports from China, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia, according to local media. Vietnam had extended anti-dumping duty on steel imports from these countries in October 2019. The investigation will review these duties.

Anti-dumping duties on import of color-coated steel originating from Chinese vary from 2.53-34.27pc, according to company, while duties on exports from South Korea are between 4.71-19.25pc.

For cold-rolled SS products, Vietnam levies AD duty of between 19.74 to 31.85pc China companies, while duties on Malaysian companies are between 11.09pc to 22.69pc. AD duty on cold-rolled SS imports from Indonesia is from 10.91pc to 25.06pc depending on company, while the duty is 37.29pc for imports from Taiwan.

South east Asian countries are indulging in a crossfire of levying anti-dumping duties on each other. Earlier, Indonesia concluded a preliminary anti-dumping investigation on colour-coated steel sheet from Vietnam and China, while Malaysian authorities spoke of initiating anti-dumping investigation on CR stainless steel from Vietnam and Indonesia.
