Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Vietnam imported 2.79mn mt of ferrous scrap in the first half of 2021, up 11.3pc from 2.51mn mt in the same period last year, according to the country’s Customs data.

 

The country also imported 58pc more of the commodity in June at 707,605mt compared to 449,142mt in the same month of the year prior. On a monthly basis, imports were nearly flat from 708,326mt in May. 

 

The United States of America was the largest exporter of ferrous scrap to the country with a 447pc increase to 273,923mt in June from 50,106mt in June 2020. Japan fell to second place, moving up less than 1pc to 249,543mt from 249,261mt within the same period.

 

The United Kingdom emerged as a new exporter in June, recording a total volume of 39,026mt.
