Volkswagen group has resumed production globally on June 16, announced the company after it resumed production at its Mexico plant after 11 weeks of suspension. All 16 Volkswagen brand plants are operational.


In Germany, suspension of production lasted around six weeks. Volkswagen first resumed its Zwickau plant in Germany on April 23, followed by Wolfsburg on April 28. All its Chinese manufacturing units have resumed production. On an average, production capacity stands at 60-70pc prior to COVID-19 lockdown. 


The company is working under serious safety norms keeping in mind the health of its employees. Also, suppliers and other companies that are related to Volkswagen must adhere to the ‘100-item plan’ for maximum health protection. 


Volkswagen AG global sales fell in all regions in May by 34pc to 609,400 units from the year prior, except in China, where vehicle sales rose to 5.7pc to 330,300 units from May 2019. From January to May, global sales fell by 30pc to 3,089,000 units. Volkswagen group consists, Porsche, Skoda and Audi.
