Volkswagen AG had halted production at its Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA plant due to a fire on Jul 13 morning, however, operations are expected to resume on Wednesday.

 

The fire was extinguished shortly after 9 am, around 30 minutes, according to the department. There were no serious injuries from the incident, but some employees have been treated for smoke inhalation.

 

In a report later that day, the Chattanooga Fire Department stated that a conveyor belt in a cramped space had caught fire. Investigations are still being carried out to determine the exact reason for the fire. 

 

Volkswagen’s Chattanooga facility employs approximately 3,800 persons and produces the Passat sedan, Atlas, and Atlas Cross Sport SUV’S. The company did not divulge the volume of the loss because of the shutdown.
