Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Ward Recycling (Ward) announced the divestment of its multi-collection wheeled bin and rear end load (REL) commercial services business to fellow UK-based waste management services provider Biffa, according to a company announcement on September 8.

According to Ward finance director, James Balfour, the sale comes at the “right time” for both companies as Ward looks to focus on its core bulk metals & waste recycling businesses and Biffa hopes to expand its East Midlands compaction services.

Biffa’s collections division chief operating officer, Jeff Anderson, commented that Ward’s commercial compaction services business achieved a pre-COVID-19 annual “run rate revenues” of around £4mn per year.

Ward attests to be the largest independent metal and waste recycling company in the East Midlands, with £150mn in revenue and six sites in Derbyshire and North Lincolnshire – three in Ilkeston, Swadlincote, Chesterfield and a deepsea export facility in Immingham.
