PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA) has signed a cooperation contract with PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (CNI) for the Rotary-Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) nickel ore processing and refining plant in Indonesia’s Southeast Sulawesi region, according to a statement by CNI.
The nickel smelter, located at Wolo in Kolaka Regency, will use rotary kiln electric furnaces (RKEFs) and refine nickel ore with a grade of 1.59pc.
It is expected to produce 27,800mt of ferronickel annually with 22pc nickel content. The project’s phase two includes the production of nickel hydroxide.
The ferronickel plant, to be completed in 36 months, will consist of two production lines with a contract value of IDR2.8tn and $180mn.
WIKA’s scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and financing.
