Southwest China’s Yunnan province is urging zinc smelters to reduce power consumption by 25pc for the second time in three months.

Aladdiny, China’s independent consultant, added to media reports on Jul 15 that aluminum manufacturers may not be impacted since they already operating at lower consumption rates following previous curbs on them.

Media reports on Wednesday stated that zinc producers in the province haven’t disclosed the resulting load reduction and output loss.

The province had restricted smelters’ power use in May following a severe drought, which lowered zinc and aluminum output. Although the drought had eased in June, Yunnan recorded the worst performance in meeting energy consumption objectives for the first quarter and is now facing pressure to further reduce use.
