Ukrainian mill Zaporizhstal produced 336,000mt of crude steel in August, down by 4.2pc from the prior year, while output rose by 10.31pc from 304,600mt in July, according to the company’s operational update.
In August, finished steel products output declined by 2.89pc to 282,300mt from 290,700mt in August 2019. It increased by 10.53pc as compared to 255,400mt last month. Pig iron production rose by 0.23pc to 394,800mt from the prior August. The output increased by 14.97pc from 343,400mt in July.
The company said that the drop in steel and finished steel outputs as compared to the prior year period was due to unfavorable market conditions.
In the Jan-Aug period, Zaporizhstal produced 2.9mn mt of pig iron, 2.5mn mt of steel, and 2.1mn mt of rolled products.
Zaporizhstal is a part of the Metinvest group. The mill restarted its blast furnace No. 5 in May this year to reach full capacity of 2,900mt per day.
