Ziehl-Abegg, a fam and rotary engine maker, has announced a €16mn ($18mn) investment to expand its Kupferzell facilities in Germany, and increase electric fan and motor production in the process.

The German fan maker plans to add around 8,400 square meters of space in the new project dedicated energy-efficient electric motors production.

Apart from the new project, the company might expand its aluminum castings operations in Schöntal-Bieringen, Germany, and its US and Asian operations to strengthen its supply chains in those regions, Peter Fenkl, chief executive officer at Ziehl-Abegg said in a press statement.

The company indicated during the project’s ground-breaking ceremony on July 6 that it had achieved sales close to 2019 levels, and that its drive technology division, which produces electric motors for elevators, had a solid sales order book despite the pandemic and related setbacks.
