India has started anti-dumping duty investigation over certain kinds of aluminium foil imported from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Hindalco, Raviraj foils and Jindal India have said that these imports are hurting domestic industries. The companies said that these imports are leading to undercutting of prices thus affecting them.

Aluminium Foil 80 microns and below are used as cigarette foil and for food wraps.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) announced that it has initiated an investigation to determine the existence, degree and effect of any alleged dumping of the subject. The investigation period will be from April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020.

According to DGTR, the investigation period for the damage will be from FY2017 to FY2020.

DGTR said that if it decides to levy anti-dumping duty, it will be adequate to remove the injury caused to the domestic industry.
