Ukrainian integrated steel mill ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (AMKR) decreased the output of its main products in 2020 due to challenging market conditions, the steelmaker indicated this week.

AMKR produced 4.9mn mt of pig iron last year compared with 5.3mn mt in 2019. Crude steel output totaled 4.7mn mt during the period under review against 5.3mn mt produced in 2019, while finished steel production tallied at 4.3mn mt compared with 4.7mn mt in the previous year.

However, the company pointed out that a quick recovery in business activities in the second half of the year had helped it to minimize its production and shipment losses for 2020. Moreover, AMKR increased its iron ore output by 4.5pc to 25.6mn mt in 2020 after an upgrade of its crushing-and-preparation complex.

The steelmaker’s other maintenance projects included repairs on the shell of blast furnace No. 9, the furnace of wire rod mill No. 1, and blast furnace No. 7. The continuous casting machines Nos. 2 and 3 also achieved their designed production parameters during the year.
