Ukrainian integrated steel mill ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih slightly decreased its output in Q1 2020 amid production reductions because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the first three months of this year, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih produced 1.3mn mt of pig iron slightly lower than 1.4 mn mt produced during the same period in 2019. it produed 1.2mn mt of finished steel in Q1 2020 compared with 1.3mn mt in Q1 2019.
The company, while announcing its Q1 production results indicated it was implemented repairs on some of its converters and sinter machines. During the quarter the integrated steelmaker implemented scheduled repairs with relining on converters No. 2 and No. 6 and many sinter machines.
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih noted it was continuing the repairs of converter No. 4, which began at the end of last month, as well as repairs of boiler No. 4 of the thermal power station No. 2 and sinter machine No. 1 of the second sinter shop with the introduction of a modern gas purification system.
Elaborating on the steps it was taking to safeguard its business and employees during the pandemic, the company said it continued to accumulate all the efforts to ensure a stable production process, the safety of employees, the implementation of investment projects and modernization despite reducing its output because of COVID-19 related shutdowns.
