Argentina’s automobile industry resumed production after being shut for more than two months amid the COVID-19 lockdown. The Government of Argentina has allowed automakers to restart operations with limited shifts, according to local media. The government has provided financial aid to many companies along with temporary tax exemptions. 

 

Automobile industry in Argentina mainly serves overseas markets. Toyota’s plant in Buenos Aires resumed operations on May 18 while other companies like Volkswagen and Scania resumed operations later in the week. 

 

In April, very few auto units were produced due to the strict lockdown imposed on March 20. Argentina exported 2,386 units in April, marking a fall of 82pc from the prior month and down by 88.4pc from the previous year.
