American packaging manufacturer Ball Corporation plans to set up new facilities in the UK and Russia to meet growing downstream demand for aluminum cans.

According to a release dated Jul 15, Ball stated that it has narrowed down to a site at Segro Park Kettering Gateway, in the UK, which upon pending permits, should break ground this year itself. This will be the third Ball plant in the UK, after Milton Keynes and Wakefield.

In Russia, the company is looking at land in the Ulyanovsk region and is working in cooperation with the local government, having established a ‘Highly Significant Investment Project’ status for the plant. This will be the fourth plant in Russia for Ball Corp.

Ball says that these developments will lead to 200 new skilled labor jobs and increase the company’s production capacity in billions of aluminum cans per year. Exact volumes remain unknown, but the plants are expected to be commissioned in 2023.
