Steel Authority of India Limited’s (Sail) Bhilai Steel Plant commenced heating operations at its recently modernised Steel Melting Shop 3 (SMS 3) on 20 Feb 2020. The company now targets to achieve a production capacity of 7mn mt in 2021. Bhilai steel plant’s crude steel production in 2018-19 was 4.45mn mt.
SMS 3 is equipped with advanced facilities for crude steel production with two converters and three casters; including two billet and one bloom caster. Sail’s total crude steel output in 2019 amounted to 16.3mn mt.
Steel minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who visited the plant on Thursday has asked Sail to provide an action plan for further enhancement of the plant.
