Steel Authority of India Limited’s (Sail) Bhilai Steel plant produced 923,000mt of UTS 90 prime rails in the Apr-Dec 2019 period, on high demand from the Indian Railways. This is the plant’s highest ever production numbers, a growth of 39.2pc from the prior year.
The breakdown of that 923,000mt figure was shown by the company as production of UTS 90 prime rails from its Rail and Structural mill at 647,000mt, up by 20.5pc from the prior year’s number which was at 537,000mt; and production of UTS 90 prime rails from its Universal rail mill at 430,000mt, as against 299,000mt.
The plant recorded its highest monthly production of 127,000mt of rails in December 2019 as against the previous highest number of 124,000mt produced in March 2019.
Bhilai Steel plant has a production capacity of 1.2mn mt at its Universal rail mill, and 0.75mn mt at the Rail and structural mill.
