 Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) under the aegis of government steelmaker Steel Authority of India (Sail) recorded a 42pc growth in the production of 260mt long rail panels in Apr 2019-Mar 2020 period, from the prior-year period. Overall output of prime rails grew by 30pc in the same period.

 

Universal Rail Mill (URM) produced 538,000mt of UTS 90 prime rails in the period, up by 42pc from 369,000mt in the prior-year period. 

Rail and Structural Mill (RSM) produced 747,000mt rails, up by 21pc from 616,000mt in the year prior.

 

BSP’s cumulative production grew by 30pc to 1.28mn mt of UTS prime rails, as against 985,000mt  in the prior year. Sail is continuously working towards ramping up rail production, especially long rails, to cater to the requirement of Indian Railways. Production capacity of new Universal Rail Mill is 1.2mn mt and production capacity of Rail & Heavy Structural mill is 0.75mn mt.
