The Brazilian mining industry saw an annual uptick in exports of copper and nickel in August according to preliminary data from the country’s Economic Ministry data.
Brazil exported 117,894mt of copper ore and concentrates last month, up 68pc from 70,117mt in August 2020. During this time frame, manufactured copper product exports rose by 46.5pc to 7,541mt against 5,146mt. Nickel ore and concentrate exports tallied at 9,900mt in August, compared with no shipments made in the prior-year period.
Meanwhile, the country’s aluminum ore and concentrate exports fell by 6.7pc to 443,416mt last month, against 485,275mt in August 2020. On the other hand, manufactured aluminum exports increased by 15pc to 27,496mt from 23,922mt in the same period under comparison.
Scrap metal trading
Brazil imported 11,689mt of non-ferrous scrap in August, up 24pc from 9,368mt in August 2020. On the flip side, non-ferrous scrap exports declined by 16.7pc to 47,012mt against 54,893mt in the same timeframe.
