Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Bira Stone Lime (BSLC), a subsidiary of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), is seeking support from India’s Steel Ministry to supply dolomite to other integrated steel mills across India.

The Steel Authority of India Limited’s steel plants are currently the main buyer of BSLC’s material. The company manages reserves of 287mn mt of dolomite. In October, the company dispatched 31railway carts and expects to grow that number to 50 or 61pc on a monthly basis. The dolomite producer supplies blast furnace grade loads and is increasing its excavation resources to produce melt shop grades, according to media reports.

Around 166mn mt of BSLC’s total limestone reserves of 367mn mt are in Odisha, India. The company expects orders from steel mills for this material to increase should new dolomite orders materialize. The company previously received environmental clearance permits to increase the production of both raw materials.
