Byelorussian Steel Works (BSW) reported an increase in shipments of structural steel to the European Union’s (EU) automotive manufacturers.
According to a statement from BSW on July 27, the steelmaker’s market share of 20-80mm diameter steel products exports to the EU increased in H1 2020. The company shipped 36,000mt of steel to the EU in the first six months of the year, of which 96pc was exported to France, Austria, and the Netherlands. Its export value rose by 18pc to $19.3mn compared to the same period last year.
In H1 2020, BSW produced 321,000mt of steel products and exported 70pc of it recording a 26pc rise in exports since the same period last year.
Dmitry Korchik, BSW’s general director, said that automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) along with hydraulic rod makers in France were their main customers. He added that this was possible due to the setting up of a second rolling mill in 2015.
