China will implement its new transport policy China VI Standard or China 6 – particular the phase 6a — which will apply to urban heavy duty vehicles, in some regions of the country, from July 1, 2020. 

The standard is scheduled to be implemented at the national level in two phases, with China 6b starting on July 1, 2023.

Experts feel the policy will further promote the replacement of heavy trucks, according to China Iron and Steel Association. The move could result in more than 1 million medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks being eliminated in many places across the country.

Medium- and heavy-duty vehicles are currently following China V emission standards.

China sold 179,000 units of heavy trucks in May, up by 65.6pc from the prior year. 

China’s three-year action plan to combat air pollution aims to eliminate over 1mn mt of medium and heavy-duty diesel trucks by the end of 2020.

Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment had issued a notice stating that all heavy urban vehicless are expected to implement the China VI standard from June 3, 2020. 

Additionally, all production, imports, sales and registration of Shenzhen City Registered heavy city vehicles are required to meet the China VI emission standards from July 1.
