China went from being a net importer of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products in July to a net exporter in August, according to the preliminary data released by the Chinese General Administration of Customs. There is no mention of aluminium imports in the information related to imports of major commodities released by them.
China exported 395,423mt of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products in August this year, up by 1.06pc from July but down 11pc from August 2019. The country exported 3.31mn mt of aluminium products in Jan-August period, down by 15.77pc from the prior-year period.
Chinese imports of unwrought copper and copper products totalled 668,486mt in August, down by 12.3pc from 762,210mt in July, and up by 66pc from prior-year period.
Unwrought copper imports rose by 38pc to 4.27mn mt in Jan-Aug from 3.09mn mt in the prior-year period.
Imports in August dropped by 66pc as the arbitrage window closed couple with weak demand in Quarter 3.
Imports of copper concentrate or partially processed copper ore were at 1.58mn mt in August, down by 11.4pc from July and 12.4pc down from August 2019.
