Colombia’s crude steel output decreased by 11.3pc to 103,092mt in September from 116,275mt in the prior-year period according to the Colombian Steel Committee (Andi).

 

Long steel output also declined by 3.3pc to 114,348mt last month, from 118,248mt in September 2019, Andi indicated.

 

Andi also released long products import data for August and indicated that the South American country imported 33,766mt of long steel products during the month, down by 52.1pc from 70,489mt imported in August 2019.

 

Colombia consumes 1.5mn mt of steel products per year, of which, about 1mn mt is produced in the country, while the balance 500,000mt is imported.

 

The country’s crude steel production has shown signs of recovery since June as the construction and manufacturing industries resumed activities after a two-month shut down owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The South American nation produced 108,498mt in July and 113,033mt in August, according to Andi.
