Canada’s investment in building construction decreased by 1.9pc in May to C$19.4bn ($15.5bn) from April 2021, according to Statistics Canada (StatCan).
Residential construction saw a 2.7pc drop to C$14.8bn in May while non-residential construction inched up by 0.6pc to C$4.7bn from the previous month.
Under residential construction, single-family units saw a 2.7pc fall to C$8.3bn and multi-unit construction investment saw a 2.6pc drop to C$6.5bn in May compared to April 2021.
Investment in commercial construction, under non-residential construction, rose by 0.8pc to C$2.6bn, whereas institutional construction investment grew by 1.2pc to C$1.2bn and industrial construction dropped by 0.7pc to C$837mn this May compared to the prior month.
