Sweden’s LKAB is keeping its manufacturing facilities open for now but considering possibilities including shutting down operations due to the COVID-19 impact.
For now, the company announced, it will adhere to all health protocols laid out by public authorities as it continues production at its plants as its operations were part of Sweden’s primary industries and shutting down production could lead to drastic drop in the country’s economy.
However, it noted in a press statement, given the evolving situation of COVID-19’s spread LKAB was considering scenarios such as slowing down production, closing processing plants, and implementing maintenance measures if required.
According to Michael Palo, senior vice president business area, the shutdowns by most automotive manufacturing companies will impact LKAB to the extent of considering stopping production if the COVID-19 curve does not flatten.
